School/Center Overview

The Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania is the oldest and one of the finest medical schools in the United States. Penn is rich in tradition and heritage and at the same time consistently at the forefront of new developments and innovations in medical education and research. Since its founding in 1765 the School has been a strong presence in the community and prides itself on educating the leaders of tomorrow in patient care, biomedical research, and medical education.


Provide pre- and post- award research and financial administration support for individual investigators within the Systems Pharmacology Department which consists of approximately $30 million in proposals, $20 million in expenses, and greater than 150 accounts annually. Responsible for managing grant portfolio of several faculty members which include 2 large multi-center/multi-million dollar grants, contracts and sub-contracts. Prepare proposal budgets, monitor grant expenditures for compliance, monitor financial activities, produce specialized financial reports, financial planning for individual faculty portfolios, provide liaison to the Perelman School of Medicine’s Research Support Services and to the University’s Office of Research Services, and serve as a trainer in research administration. Complete effort reports and serve as a resource for the Faculty related to the NIH FCOI process. Prepare annual sponsored programs budget and quarterly variance analyses for respective portfolio. Grants Manager B will work independently and will actively participate in specific projects, including the annual budget submission. Reports to the senior administrator within department and has a dotted reporting line to the PSOM Office of Research Support Services.


Bachelor’s degree in accounting and 5-7 years of grant and contract administration or accounting/business administration experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, required. Strong proficiency in spreadsheet and database programs; experience in university financial and research administration accounting systems preferred. Demonstrated excellent interpersonal and communication skills. A strong knowledge of and demonstrated competency with compliance issues related to the management of both federal and non-federal sponsored research including industry sponsored researched and clinical studies.
