School/Center Overview

The Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania is the oldest and one of the finest medical schools in the United States. Penn is rich in tradition and heritage and at the same time consistently at the forefront of new developments and innovations in medical education and research. Since its founding in 1765 the School has been a strong presence in the community and prides itself on educating the leaders of tomorrow in patient care, biomedical research, and medical education.


The primary functions of this position include: (1) Manage and coordinate all recruitment efforts; conduct telephone eligibility screenings; complete in-person study visits; consent study participants. Manage the overall study calendar on a daily basis. (2) Administer behavioral and cessation counseling per study protocol. Assist with training new counselors as needed. (3) Develop/maintain training materials. Train personnel on center-wide and study-specific SOPs (e.g. data entry/QC, phone screening, data collection, computerized behavioral tasks). (4) Assist the project manager with preparation of IRB submissions and manage regulatory materials. (5) Manage study product accountability and maintain the inventory records of study related materials and equipment. (6) Coordinate and/or complete data entry and quality assurance assignments including chart reviews. (7) Attend study meetings as required; report directly to PI and Project Manager re: study progress. (8) Perform additional duties as assigned.


A Bachelor’s Degree and 1 year to 3 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Two years of counseling experience preferred. The ideal candidate should: (1) Have practical experience working in a research setting be comfortable interacting with research subjects & research staff. (2) Be familiar with collecting data through neurocognitive and/or behavioral tasks. (3) Have regulatory experience (i.e. submitting protocols/consent, adverse event reporting, etc.). (4) Be organized, demonstrate attention to detail, and be able to consistently perform in a deadline-driven environment. (5) Supervisory experience is highly preferred.
