The Graduate School of Education at the University of Pennsylvania is looking for a motivated designer who will be responsible for user experience of school-wide websites and applications. This position will be primarily responsible for front-end web content layout and basic design work, including fulfilling website update requests and assisting with interface design of applications. Under the creative direction of the Academic Technology Manager, this position will: Create visual layouts for web page content according to design guidelines and usability standards. Assist in designing interface elements and user experiences of applications and features. Perform various graphic design tasks such as digital asset optimization. Work collaboratively with team members to build, maintain, and update Drupal websites using HTML/CSS/Javascript/jQuery. Participate in determining requirements for new websites and applications. Provide university staff and faculty with training on IT Web Team services and tools.

Must be passionate about crafting visual experiences. The User Experience Designer will bring strong creative, programming, and problem-solving skills to translate concepts into interaction and design solutions. Following brand guidelines set forth by the University, this position will work with the Academic Technology Manager and IT Web Team clients to provide design recommendations, layout drafts and final, coded web pages and application interfaces.


An Associate’s Degree (preferably in Graphic Design, Information Technology, or related fields), or two year college equivalent and 1 year to 2 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.

Demonstrated knowledge of front-end web development and experience with building and maintaining websites. Proven sense of design, with the ability to translate it into digital interfaces; strong typography and layout skills. Strong technical abilities and a proven track record of creative use of technology to solve problems. Excellent verbal and written communication skills, interpersonal skills, and attention to detail. Knowledge of HTML, CSS and JavaScript/jQuery required.
