The Office of the Provost provides direction on all facets of the University’s academic mission, including education, faculty, research, online learning, global initiatives, admissions, athletics, student life, and arts and culture. The Provost’s Center aggregates programs and offices designed to support University operations, including: the Office of the Provost, the Office of the Vice Provost for Research and its reporting departments (Penn Center for Innovation, Environmental Health and Radiation Safety, University Laboratory Animal Resources, and Regulatory Affairs), the Office of the Chaplain, the Graduate Student Center and Family Resource Center, the Division of Recreation and Intercollegiate Athletics, College Houses and Academic Services, New Student Orientation, the Office of Student Conduct, the Center for Undergraduate Research and Fellowships, the Office of Undergraduate Admissions, the University of Pennsylvania Press, and all of the University’s arts organizations (Penn Museum, Institute of Contemporary Art, Annenberg Center for the Performing Arts, Arthur Ross Gallery, and University Art Collection). It also includes interdisciplinary academic centers and institutes that are more appropriately housed centrally than in an individual school, including the Laboratory for Research on the Structure of Matter, the Center for Cognitive Neuroscience, the Center for Neuroscience and Society, the Penn Institute for Urban Research, the Center for Teaching and Learning, Kelly Writers House, and Weiss Tech House.


The Associate/Senior Associate Director will work very closely with faculty, student and staff members of the PICI@Penn. This position will support the evaluation and commercialization of technologies and manage complex intellectual property and agreement matters arising from a large multiple institution consortium / alliance focused on the development of new cancer immunotherapies developed by the PICI@Penn members and their collaborators. The Associate/Senior Associate Director will have responsibility for managing complex intellectual property and technology transfer tasks including being a key liaison between PCI, PICI@Penn s members and their research teams and other academic institutions involved in the PICI consortium. Duties will include ensuring compliance with all intellectual property aspects of the alliance agreement, negotiating permitted third party agreements to support the research in PICI@Penn member researchers and project member s laboratories. The Associate/Senior Associate Director will also support and coordinate relevant education as it relates to intellectual property contractual obligations for PCI, PICI@PENN members/collaborators, and other academic institutions involved in the PICI consortium. The incumbent will also participate in internal PICI@Penn research and clinical development meetings with member researchers and project members to help identify new intellectual property being developed as well as provide feedback and guidance to faculty and staff on intellectual property and contractual issues related to the PICI@Penn agreement(s). The position is contingent upon funding.


A Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in biomedical science and 3-5 years of experience in university and/or industry setting(s) evaluating and licensing intellectual property is required (for Associate Director). PhD and 5-7 years of experience required (for Senior Associate Director); or equivalent combination of education and related experience; Demonstrated track record of success in negotiating intellectual property license agreements and other associated research collaboration and partnering agreements (sponsored research, MTAs, CDAs, collaboration agreements, service agreements) is required; Demonstrated track record of establishing and maintaining productive relationships with key faculty members and industry collaborators; Experience in key aspects of academic technology transfer preferred; Ability to autonomously manage a large, diverse set of tasks and projects under tight deadlines; Excellent time management and prioritization skills; Excellent verbal & written communication skills; An independent self-starter with strong work ethic; A team player; High level of attention to detail in work products.
