School/Center Overview

The Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania is the oldest and one of the finest medical schools in the United States. Penn is rich in tradition and heritage and at the same time consistently at the forefront of new developments and innovations in medical education and research. Since its founding in 1765 the School has been a strong presence in the community and prides itself on educating the leaders of tomorrow in patient care, biomedical research, and medical education.


The Admissions Coordinator is responsible for various administrative aspects of the BGS admissions process, as well as website management and data management. The position requires a high degree of initiative and judgment in administering the centralized aspects of admissions across 7 individual graduate groups, comprised by 650 faculty members with appointments in 7 schools across the university. The individual reports directly to the Administrative Director and indirectly to the Associate Dean for Graduate Education. S/he also works closely with the application system vendor to modify and maintain the system; with high level individuals in the Provost’s Office and ISC on issues surrounding the central admissions system; with each of the graduate programs’ graduate group chairs, admissions committee chairs, and coordinators, along with other administrators and faculty; and with prospective and actual applicants. The individual is also responsible for overseeing the program’s websites, including aspects of new website design and navigation as well as overall content management. Finally, the individual is responsible for program data management, analysis, and reporting for internal and external reports.


A Bachelor’s Degree and 3 years to 5 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Prior experience working in an academic environment is strongly preferred. Experience working with admissions systems is highly desirable. Other requirements: excellent organization, interpersonal, written and oral communication skills; adaptability, flexibility, initiative, and good judgment; ability to work autonomously while being responsive to the requirements of supervisors and colleagues. A high degree of proficiency with word processing, spreadsheet, and web publishing software are essential. Experience with database management and query tools are highly desirable.
