School/Center Overview

The Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania is the oldest and one of the finest medical schools in the United States. Penn is rich in tradition and heritage and at the same time consistently at the forefront of new developments and innovations in medical education and research. Since its founding in 1765 the School has been a strong presence in the community and prides itself on educating the leaders of tomorrow in patient care, biomedical research, and medical education.


The Center for Weight and Eating Disorders at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine seeks a full-time Clinical Research Coordinator (CRC). The candidate will help coordinate an NIH-funded clinical trial led by Dr. Rebecca Pearl. The trial will test the effects of a psychological intervention to help individuals with obesity cope with weight bias and stigma, in combination with behavioral weight loss (BWL) treatment, compared to BWL alone. The study will assess outcomes such as weight loss, physical activity, cardiometabolic risk factors (e.g., blood glucose), and psychological outcomes including weight bias internalization, depression, and quality of life.

The CRC-A will be responsible for: coordinating subject screenings and study visits; coordinating regulatory paperwork; documenting and reporting adverse events; preparing study materials and ordering study specific supplies; ensuring protocol adherence & data quality; completing progress and data safety monitoring plan reports; maintaining study charts; and entering study data. The CRC may also have opportunities to participate in writing empirical papers.

Position available beginning in July 2018. Position is contingent on continued funding.


The minimum of a BA/BS and 1-3 years of clinical trial/clinical research experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience are required. Must be willing to work flexible hours. Must be able to interact sensitively with patients seeking weight loss treatment. Effective problem solving, communication, and writing skills are required. Must be able to multi-task. Demonstrated ability to work as part of a team as well as independently. Knowledge of IRB and human research protection regulations.
