School/Center Overview

Residential & Hospitality Services (RHS) provides essential 24/7 services for the University of Pennsylvania, comprising student housing, residential and campus dining services, conference and event services, University Club operations, and services for those seeking off campus housing. RHS responsibilities include administering housing-related services to 11 College Houses and Sansom Place (graduate and undergraduate housing) across campus, working with other partners to provide students and guests with services that support living and learning in the University residences; and overseeing numerous food operations and dining services to ensure delivery of consistent, high-quality food to a diverse on-campus clientele through a wide variety of venues.


The Director, Residential Services will lead the administrative, management and service facets of on-campus student housing in support of Penn’s academic mission. The Director manages residential facilities, customer service, and administrative processes in support of approximately 6,500 undergraduate students and guests who reside in university-owned residences (15 currently), as well as an Off-Campus Services education/referral program, and graduate housing.

The residential operation is 7 days per week, 24 hours per day, including all University-recognized holidays. As a member of this dynamic organization, the Director is expected to work as needed outside of regular office hours including evenings/weekends & during peak activity periods (e.g. Move-in/Move-out) or when normal campus operations are suspended (e.g. Inclement weather).

Residential & Hospitality Services (RHS) comprises residential, dining, conference, and off-campus services, and associated service contract management.


Master’s degree in higher education or related field required. A minimum of seven to ten (7-10) years of progressive responsibilities in college and university housing management and administration is required. Knowledge of and demonstrated organizational, managerial, budgetary, and financial management skills. Successful experience in providing the use of technology to provide and receive services; Familiarity with student housing management systems, particularly StarRez, a plus. Ability to interpret, analyze and evaluate complex maintenance, budget planning and property management issues. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Experience leading and supervising a diverse group of both professional and student employees is critical. Must be capable of working collegially with a diverse group of students, faculty, staff, and visitors on a daily basis.
