The Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania is the oldest and one of the finest medical schools in the United States. The Gene Therapy Program (GTP) and Orphan Disease Center (ODC) are entering a new era of unprecedented opportunity with the great potential to reshape the face of medicine as we know it. Our discoveries have set the stage for successful treatments and possibly even cures for devastating genetic diseases. Our R&D organization has a translational infrastructure that includes: technology discovery, specialized immunology assays operating under GLP, a Vector Core/Manufacturing unit that conducts GMP comparable work, and a large non-clinical program for animal testing under GLP including large NHP and rodent vivaria.

Our Animal Models Core is looking for Lab Animal Tech Assistant, which will ensure the humane care and treatment of laboratory animals.

As the Lab Animal Tech Assistant, you will provide laboratory animal care to a variety of laboratory animals in a safe, humane and sanitary manner, adhering to all federal, state, local and University regulations, guidelines, and policies; feed, water and change cages; maintain animals in specialized housing, such as barrier or containment facilities; participate in technical procedures such as dosing, simple injections, ear tagging; clean and sanitize cages and equipment; assist scientists in solving simple problems related to the animals; answer basic questions about the care of the animals; provide simple training such as how to pick up an animal and how to hold an animal; document in writing completion of animal husbandry tasks. maintains records; makes observations and reports animal health and conditions to the supervisor.


A High School Diploma and 1 to 3 years of experience working with laboratory animals or equivalent combination of education and experience are required.
AALAS Assistant Laboratory Animal Technician (ALAT) or Laboratory Animal Technician (LAT) certification preferred.
Must have experience animal handling and be dedicated the humane care of lab animals.
Strongly prefer experience working within GLP or other regulated environments
Strong attention to detail and accurate record keeping a must!
Must be able to work rotating weekends and holidays
