The ideal candidate is an experienced and highly-motivated senior research program manager with strong research and administrative skills. This role will support a growing research program that includes a HRSA-Center for Primary Care Training and Enhancement, several NIH- funded projects on lung and colorectal cancer, and other studies focused on accelerating health care transformation and eliminating health disparities. These projects are national in scope, requiring detailed coordination across multiple project sites and investigators around the country. The manager will work closely with the PI to integrate the work of project teams and to manage the overall implementation of projects, providing direction and guidance to other project managers. The program manager will be responsible for directing the engagement of researchers, stakeholders, and funders, including national learning collaboratives and advisory boards. With responsibility for all facets of research projects, the manager will ensure that all deliverables are completed, on time and within budget, including submission of progress reports and regulatory materials as required. A high level of independence, attention to detail, and strong communication skills are expected.

Responsibilities include serving as a liaison between the PIs and the rest of the team (including other investigators, study staff, consultants, and other internal and external entities), managing and monitoring operations and timelines, managing the grant budget, and supervising operational staff, including research assistants and student teams. Tasks include designing research studies, developing and maintaining a network of research providers, presenting research, coordinating research meetings, negotiating changes to projects as needed, advising on research approaches and methodology, preparing research for publication and/or dissemination to organizations, managing project workflows, and coordination of timely preparation and submission of technical progress reports and applications to sponsor(s). Travel may be required for this position.

The minimum of a Master’s degree in a health-related field with training in research methods and/or administration, and 5 to 7 years of experience managing research projects, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, are required. A PhD and/or experience working in multi-site studies, in cancer prevention or control, and health disparities research are a plus. The senior research program manager must be quantitatively and analytically skilled, thrive in multi-tasking environments, and be a self-starter with a results orientation. Strong PC skills in Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, and PowerPoint; statistical software and web-based applications; and knowledge of grant submission, progress reports, IRB and other regulatory processes is required. The research program manager will interact with a variety of faculty members, staff, and students throughout the university and the Penn/Philadelphia community, so strong interpersonal communication skills are essential. The successful candidate will be extremely well organized and resourceful. High accuracy, dependability, and attention to detail will be vital to success in the position. The research program manager should have the ability to work independently and as part of a team, along with strong presentation skills and prior supervisory experience. This position is contingent on continued funding.
