Duties

Assist in research on inherited retinal diseases. Provide diverse and in depth expertise in histotechnical and imaging support. Assist PI by managing aspects of research projects which include participation in experimental design, acquisition of imaging data and analysis. Provide illustration and writing support for publications, scientific progress reports and grant proposals.

Perform tissue fixation, embedding (plastic, paraffin, OCT) and sectioning for light and electron microscopy. Perform immunohistochemistry on retinal sections. Acquire confocal microscope images. Maintain laboratory equipment and supplies related to this position. Occasionally provide help in training students/research visitors. Position is under direct supervision of a faculty member within a vibrant team of vision researchers. Experience in confocal microscopy is highly desirable. May include occasional evening and weekend work. Position contingent upon funding.

Qualifications

A Level: Bachelor’s Degree and 0 – 1 year of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Prior laboratory experience in histology preferred. Exposure to ocular tissue processing is highly desirable. Experience in confocal microscopy and imaging software analysis is highly desirable. Candidate should ideally have some basic molecular (RNA, protein) biology expertise. Good organizational, computer, and interpersonal skills are required. Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English are necessary. Evening and weekend work may be required.

Level B: All of the above; 1 – 3 years of experience required.
