The Gene Therapy Program (GTP) is entering a new era of unprecedented opportunity with the great potential to reshape the face of medicine as we know it. Our discoveries have set the stage for successful treatments and possibly even cures for devastating genetic diseases.

The laboratory of Dr. Jim Wilson, at GTP of the University of Pennsylvania, has been a leader in the development of innovative vector technology for close to three decades. We have emerged as the ‘go-to’ organization for public and private partners, who want to participate in the gene therapy space. Currently, we are positioned to lead another round of vector innovation and establish pre-clinical and clinical proof-of-concept in therapeutic applications of in-vivo genome editing.

Our Program for Comparative Medicine (PCM) is looking for Staff Vet to serve as a clinical, technical and scientific resource for GTP and ensure the humane care of laboratory animals.

As a Staff Vet, you will contribute to the advancement of gene therapy research programs for the treatment of genetic disorders and orphan disease by providing veterinary clinical care to a wide variety of laboratory animal species, maintaining the physical and psychological health of the animals. You will provide diagnostic and surgical services (anesthesia monitoring and post-operative recovery and care), implement all aspects of research study activities within PCM, study-related observations, sample collections, and data collection. Assist in the development of animal care/use protocols (IACUC) and participate in the design/implementation of Standard Operating Procedures for the animal care program, and also maintaining compliance with all protocols, SOP’s, and federal, state, and local regulations. You will assist in preventative medicine programs, including health monitoring, quarantine, and diagnostic lab activities.
