School/Center Overview

Division of the Vice Provost for University Life (VPUL) is Penn’s foremost provider of student services and educational access. VPUL partners and collaborates with diverse organizations across many dimensions including: race, ethnicity, gender, sexual orientation, historical tradition, age, religion, disabilities, veteran status, interests, perspectives and socioeconomic backgrounds. We enhance the ability of nearly 25,000 undergraduate, graduate, and professional students, along with other community participants. University Life programs provide academic and career support, campus and community engagement, health and wellness programs, and much more. Our efforts help to fulfill Penn’s strategic vision of integrating knowledge across campus. VPUL is part of the Office of the Provost and includes 32 campus departments.


The Associate Director of the Greenfield Intercultural Center will be an experienced student affairs professional responsible for supporting the Director in managing center wide initiatives in support of the center’s intercultural mission. Duties will include developing, implementing, and evaluating center programs and activities. The Associate Director will partner with instructors in the oversight and logistics of our intercultural courses, and will provide leadership in supporting our many student organizations. The Associate Director will also design and implement student leadership initiatives, and make recommendations regarding resource allocations for existing groups, as well as, take the lead in outreaching to newer student organizations/communities. The role also includes responsibility for the center’s partnership with Penn Admissions in aiding in the retention of Native/Indigenous/First Nations students. It includes supervision of graduate interns and assistance in the development of assessment tools/reports to document efficacy of center initiatives. The Associate Director will work as part of a GIC team and will represent the Director, as needed. The role also requires collaboration with colleagues across campus to support VPUL’s annual goals and objectives. The position reports to the Director of the Greenfield Intercultural Center


A Master’s Degree in Social Work, Counseling, or Student Affairs preferred and 3 years to 5 years of experience is required or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The candidate must display excellent counseling skills, with a sensitivity to the needs and concerns of diverse groups of students. Demonstrated experience in developing, administering and evaluating programs and workshops in the areas of diversity, cultural awareness and inclusion is necessary. Previous experience working with and/or counseling diverse student populations. Must have outstanding writing and presentation skills and a high level of organizational and management skills. Ability to prepare and present reports to varied audiences, often with short turnaround time. Associate Director is also expected to have supervisory, budgetary and facility management skills and will follow all University procedures and protocols in these and other administrative areas. The Associate Director must be collaborative, flexible, and work productively with diverse groups and individuals representing a broad range of constituents. Database, Excel, Photoshop, website management skills and experience with diverse social media platforms highly desirable. The ability to help foster a positive and productive working environment between staff and students is critical. Applicants must be able to work flexible schedule that includes regular evening and occasional weekend work.
