School/Center Overview

The Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania is the oldest and one of the finest medical schools in the United States. Penn is rich in tradition and heritage and at the same time consistently at the forefront of new developments and innovations in medical education and research. Since its founding in 1765 the School has been a strong presence in the community and prides itself on educating the leaders of tomorrow in patient care, biomedical research, and medical education.


The ideal candidate will be an experienced and highly-motivated project manager. Their role will be to support a research program that includes the National Center for Integrated Behavioral Health and NIH projects on lung and colorectal cancer (including PROSPR, SCOLAR, and the Center for Research to Optimize Precision Lung Cancer Screening in Diverse Populations). These projects are national in scope, requiring detailed coordination across multiple sites and Centers around the country. The manager will work closely with the PI to integrate the work of the project teams to manage the implementation of projects. This includes development and implementation of research projects, generating and submitting progress reports, and managing timelines. The project manager will also be responsible for directing the engagement of researchers, stakeholder and funders including a ‘community of practice;’ advisory boards; and project work groups for integrated behavioral health and primary care projects at multiple sites. They will participate in and facilitate strategic planning efforts related to budget planning, payment for work, project estimates, and other budgetary issues related to daily operation of the Academic Unit and coordinate and supervise staff effort and assign research assistants to projects and tasks based on skill sets and demands. Additionally, the manager will create and oversee progress, regulatory, and data for all projects: active, inactive, and proposal stage, plus recruit, hire, orient, and train new full-time, part-time, and temporary staff on an on-going basis, as needed, for project completion. This position is also envisioned to oversee and coordinate community and population health activities in the Center for Community and Population Health in the Department of Family Medicine and Community Health. They will also manage meeting coordination, website maintenance, program evaluation, dissemination, and supervising staff in the department and other duties and responsibilities as assigned.


A Master’s degree in public health, nursing, social work, epidemiological research, or related field, and at least 3-5 years of experience or an equivalent combination or education and experience required. Organizational, verbal, written, and interpersonal skills are necessary to interact effectively with all research team members, as well as with members of the Penn and Philadelphia community. All applicants must be able to demonstrate familiarity with word processing, spreadsheet, database, statistical software, and web-based applications. Knowledge of grant submission, progress reports, IRB and other regulatory processes is required. This position is contingent on continued funding.
