Division of the Vice Provost for University Life (VPUL) is Penn’s foremost provider of student services and educational access. Duties

The Penn PreFreshman Program (PFP) Associate Director is responsible to the Director of PENNCAP for providing leadership, in close collaboration with Penn’s four undergraduate schools and other university partners, in the administration of the PFP Program, a four-week, academically rigorous, residential program for incoming first-year undergraduate students. During the academic year, the Associate Director is responsible for planning ongoing academic support initiatives and cultural, social and recreational programs that will support PENNCAP student academic excellence, retention and resource utilization. The Associate Director will also provide back-up support for the Director.

The position responsibilities include, but are not limited to: working with School and Admissions colleagues in the identification and selection of PFP program participants; hiring and training program academic support, peer and residential staff; planning University resource office introductions and follow-up; overseeing participant social, recreational, and cultural events, and serving as the on-call administrator for the duration of the summer program. The Associate Director will also collaborate with colleagues in the Dean’s offices of each of the four undergraduate schools, the Office of Financial Aid, cultural center directors, and other support services to develop and promote ongoing PENNCAP student programming to support student success. The Associate Director will also convene the collection of PFP participant data and work with partners on an ongoing basis to assess the effectiveness of both PFP and ongoing PFP participant outcomes.

Qualifications

Masters required in Student Affairs or an academic discipline, preferably STEM, with at least 3 to 5 years of relevant experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience. The ideal individual will have the ability to exercise excellent judgment in a variety of situations, with strong written, verbal communication, administrative and organizational skills, and the ability to maintain a realistic balance among multiple competing priorities. Must be able to work independently in a deadline-driven environment and must be able to handle a wide variety of activities and confidential matters with discretion. Must have the ability and experience to plan and implement programs and events. Experience working with low SES students and a demonstrated commitment to diversity a must. Knowledge and experience working in a university setting a plus. Previous supervisory experience preferred. Must be able to work evenings and weekends as needed. Must pass Pennsylvania required background check.
