School/Center Overview

The Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania is the oldest and one of the finest medical schools in the United States. Penn is rich in tradition and heritage and at the same time consistently at the forefront of new developments and innovations in medical education and research. Since its founding in 1765 the School has been a strong presence in the community and prides itself on educating the leaders of tomorrow in patient care, biomedical research, and medical education.


Provide oversight and support for various administrative elements of the training grant proposal development process with a primary focus on NIH T32 proposals, which are used to support predoctoral and postdoctoral trainees throughout campus. Manage aggregate data collection and other grant-related information, including information on recruitment and training activities of various trainee populations. Through development of a resource guide and templates, generation of data for tables and forms, and customization of boilerplate text, provide logistical guidance for proposal assembly for 50+ Perelman School of Medicine (PSOM)-based T32s, as well as T32s awarded to other schools on campus and CHOP. Report to the Administrative Director of Biomedical Graduate Studies (BGS), which is home to 780 PhD students, and work closely with the BGS Director of Training Support and Career Development. Also work closely with other research training offices, including the office of Biomedical Postdoctoral Programs, home to 825 postdoctoral fellows, and other faculty and administrators throughout the University, including CHOP. Serve as primary BGS contact for T32 Program Directors (PDs) and their designees in the development of T32 proposals.


A Bachelor’s Degree and 3 years to 5 years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, are required. One or more years of experience specifically in related areas, such as graduate school administration or grant writing, is strongly preferred.

The successful candidate will be an independent but highly collaborative professional with a team approach to problem-solving. He or she will need to have the communication, leadership and management skills to work productively with a wide range of faculty and staff members across the University. Must genuinely enjoy working with others and have a strong service orientation. Also essential is a keen and relentless attention to detail, along with the ability to multi-task efficiently and handle competing demands, while remaining cool under pressure. Must be highly proficient with word processing and spreadsheet software, and should be experienced using web content management software. Must be experienced with database query applications, such as Business Objects, and analyzing and presenting data. Experience with database application development processes as a client, including communicating requirements and testing results, is preferred.
