The Gene Therapy Program (GTP) is entering a new era of unprecedented opportunity with great potential to reshape the face of medicine as we know it. Our discoveries have set the stage for successful treatments and possibly even cures for devastating genetic diseases.

The laboratory of Dr. Jim Wilson, at GTP of the University of Pennsylvania has been a leader in the development of innovative vector technology for close to three decades. We have emerged as the ‘go-to’ organization for public and private partners, who want to participate in the gene therapy space. Currently we are positioned to lead another round of vector innovation and establish pre-clinical and clinical proof-of-concept in therapeutic applications of in-vivo genome editing.

Our Program for Comparative Medicine is looking for Supervisor, Lab Animal Resources to provide hands-on leadership within our barrier mouse vivarium and ensure the humane care of lab animals.
As a Supervisor you will support barrier operations by serving as the lead technician for all husbandry and technical duties. You will oversee the daily care of animals, facilities, and environments by assigning tasks to staff , working closely with them and follow-up appropriately to ensure proper completion and compliance with regulatory standards. You will monitor and document environmental controls (HVAC, lighting), facility, and mechanical support systems (cage wash equipment, water systems, electrical) to ensure operations in accordance to GLP, AAALAC, USDA, and GTP protocols. You will audit GLP regulated documentation, partnering with Quality Assurance to ensure quality standards are met. You will collaborate with Associate Director, Lab Animal Services in the writing/updating Standard Operating Procedures. You will assist Veterinary staff in the documentation and triage of animal health cases.

Employees in this position will participate in an occupational safety and health program which requires tuberculin testing and potentially immunization. Weekend work, holiday work and overtime hours are a requirement of this position. May be designated as essential personnel during a storm/natural disaster. Responsibilities must be performed with minimal instruction and persons will be expected to independently perform duties as described.


HS Diploma with 5 to 7 years of experience in laboratory animal facility or an equivalent combination of education and experience required
Strongly prefer candidates to have 2+ of supervisory experience
Must have experience animal handling and be dedicated the humane care of lab animals.
Strongly prefer experience working in a regulated environment
Strong attention to detail and accurate record keeping a must!
Must be able to lift, push, pull up to 50 lbs
Must be able to work rotating weekends, holidays and on-call
