Duties

CSIS operates a series of online and residential educational programs focused on helping changemakers become more effective in their work. The Center is based at the University of Pennsylvania but its programs take place not just on campus but at locations around the world. Drawing on a deep knowledge of social enterprise, an appreciation of the special needs of social entrepreneurs, and the capacity to imagine and deliver innovative education programs, the Managing Director will lead, design and develop multiple programs (online executive education programs, a series of intensive incubators/Social Impact Houses and other programming) that build on the Center’s strengths. This role will have full supervisory responsibilities for 2 staff members who will support the operations of the Center. This position also will manage the relationships with CSIS’s cadre of consultants to ensure that their deliverables are in accordance with agreed-upon expectations. The Managing Director will provide the Director of Finance and Programs with consultant progress reports, as that role is responsible for approving vendor payments.

In the Social Impact Houses, the Managing Director will develop the program, including the order and content of the sessions, and s/he will serve as facilitator for certain sessions on topics related to management/strategy. The Social Impact Houses are week-long intensive incubators for changemakers in locations in the US and abroad. These incubators provide participants with the tools, community support and training needed to advance their social impact ventures.

The Centers’ other programming (including executive education and other formats) brings together participants, either online or in person, for the purpose of helping them bring tested approaches to their companies, learn more about the social impact landscape and expand their network. The Managing Director will develop the programs’ content.
