Key elements of operational effectiveness include timely review and initiation of prioritized clinical research, meeting and exceeding trial enrollment and data quality benchmarks, and assuring compliance with all relevant regulatory standards. Key personnel management responsibilities include setting clear goals and priorities, developing/implementing/evaluating both general and trial-specific action plans, assuring adequate research nurse/coordinator training, and providing at least quarterly feedback on performance and opportunities for improvement. When appropriate, the CRU Manager will manage collaborations between CCRU units and promote effective utilization of institutional resources including (CTRC, ITMAT, IDS, IBI and OCR) and CCRU personnel (data wrangler, regulatory specialist, float coordinator) to enhance the operational efficiency and effectiveness. This position will play a central role in expanding CRU activities to affiliated practices beyond HUP and PCAM including coordination with other Penn Medicine practices and with other institutions. This position will design, implement and oversee the logistics involved with investigator-initiated trials including development of case report forms, databases, regulatory oversight structures (e.g. DSMB) and biosample processing and storage protocols. Finally, this position is expected to help develop and implement innovative approaches for expanding trial enrollment across all practices including strategies leveraging electronic resources, provider incentives and direct patient engagement.
