Duties

A Research Specialist A position is available in the Department of Neurosurgery. This individual will work in the area of brain repair, stem cell biology, and neural tissue engineering. Experiments include the differentiation of stem cells into specific neuron types, engineering novel neural tissues, and transplanting these cells and tissues into rodent brains. Significant experience with stem cell and/or neuronal culture is preferred. Additional duties include immunofluorescence staining and microscopy. Opportunities exist for involvement in electrophysiology. The research specialist will be expected to assist in general lab maintenance, supply ordering/tracking, bookkeeping, and providing data for reports and grants. They may also oversee and train students and other research specialists with less experience. Interested individuals will be encouraged to design experiments and co-author publications.

Qualifications

A BA/BS degree in biological sciences and 0-1 years of experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, are required. Significant experience with stem cell and/or neuronal culture and prior experience in laboratory research setting is preferred. A high degree of independence, self-motivation, attention to detail, and creativity are important to this position. Excellent writing, communication, and interpersonal skills are also preferred.
