School/Center Overview

The School of Arts and Sciences forms the foundation of the scholarly excellence that has established Penn as one of the world’s leading research universities. We teach students across all 12 Penn schools, and our academic departments span the reach from anthropology and biology to sociology and South Asian studies.


The Business Administrator will be assigned to the Market Street Regional Business Office and will report directly to the Manager of Finance. S/he will also be expected to engage in opportunities to provide financial support services at the various Regional Business Offices in the School of Arts and Sciences, as needed. The Business Administrator holds responsibilities including processing departmental payroll and time reporting, processing departmental purchases and reimbursements, assisting in financial report preparation, including analysis and presentation, reconciling accounts (endowments, gifts, grant, operating and discretionary funds). This position will also assist with pre- and post-award sponsored research support as well as departmental budget preparation and ongoing management.


BA/BS and 2-3 years of experience in a University Business office environment, or equivalent combination of education and experience, are required; experience with Penn’s financial systems (BEN, UMIS and Oracle-based applications) as well as intermediate to advanced skills in Microsoft office (particularly Excel) are preferred. The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate an ability to effectively communicate with faculty and staff; demonstrate a pro-active work style with strong follow-up skills; be able to work under pressure; possess strong attention to detail; possess effective interpersonal skills and be able to enforce guidelines and protocols with constituents in a diplomatic yet assertive manner; must be able to switch gears depending on processing and/or project deadlines; must have ability to work independently as well as collaboratively and remain flexible in order to adapt quickly to changing priorities.
