The Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania is the oldest and one of the finest medical schools in the United States. The Dept. of OB-GYN, Ovarian Cancer Research Center seeks a Research Specialist with at least 3 to 5 years of experience in basic molecular/cellular biology and or cancer immunology and mouse models. Focusing on identifying novel targets and therapeutic strategies for ovarian cancer. Investigating mechanisms of resistance of targeted therapies. The ultimate goal is to identify novel agents or combinations in the lab and bring them to phase I clinical trails in ovarian cancer patients. The candidate should exhibit independence and judgement in order to be able to manage an orthotopic ovarian cancer patient-derived xenograft (PDX) program.

Will be required to manage mouse experiments-handle mice, care for mice, perform surgical procedures which include transplanation of human tumor to mice ovaries (training will be provided) to develop patient derived xenograft (PDX), measure tumors using ultrasound (training will be provided) reset tumors and biobanking. Candidate will isolate DNA, RNA, and protein from PDX tumors. Must be able to maintain very organized records of experiments, maintain cell line and human tissue and PDX data base. The candidate will be in charge of keeping animal protocols up to date. Candidate will prepare protein lysates, running western blots, and perform immune-preciptations.

Responsibilities will include growing primary tumor cultures, establishing cell lines, performing in vitro protein assays, testing cells with a mutli-compound drug screen. Ordering supplies for the lab.


A Bachelor’s degree and 3 years to 5 years of experience in basic molecular/cellular biology and/or cancer immunology and mouse models, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, are required. (Advance degree preferred)
Must have experience working with mice. Experience in tissue culture such as growing human primary cells, ability to transfect/transduce cells, ability to perform westren blots, immunoprecipitation and flow cytometry.

Preferred but not required qualifications: experience growing primary tumor cultures, ability to perform cell line/tumor implants within the ovarian bursa, immunology background and experience in humanized mouse models preferred.

Proficiency in molecular biology techniques such as transfection/transduction, PCR are preferred.

This position requires fluency in English, excellent organizational skills, excellent communication skills and the ability to work well in a teamwork-based environment. Must be able to work independently.
