Duties

The primary role of the Clinical Research Assistant B is the technical processing of bio specimens in the Infectious Disease Clinical Trials Unit Processing Laboratory, including blood, tissue and bodily fluids. Sample processing includes preparation of PBMCs; stool samples for Fecal transplant; and leukopaks for large scale PBMC storage. Under supervision of Laboratory Manager maintain strict adherence to Operating Procedures, QA and QC policies consistent with study guidelines and NIAID/NIH/DAIDS best practices. Facilitate all aspects of sample inventory using LDMS and distribution (shipping to BRI central repository or commercial labs). Provide special handling and processing of unusual specimens. Additional responsibilities include freezer monitoring, record keeping and equipment maintenance and calibration and safety compliance in the lab.

Position is contingent on continued funding.

Qualifications

The minimum of a High School diploma and 3 to 5 years of experience in laboratory handling specimens or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Applicant must be detail oriented and able to work independently. Must possess ability to interact easily with clinical and research staff. Must possess superb time management skills; be very well organized and highly motivated. Ability to communicate clearly, work with varying personalities and manage multiple projects and duties. Knowledge of PC applications and experience in data entry is preferred. Physical requirements include frequent walking, bending, lifting of supplies and packages, and manual dexterity to select small vials from frozen storage locations.
