The Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania is the oldest and one of the finest medical schools in the United States. The primary purpose of the Clinical Research Nurse C is to support the research program in Reproductive Endocrinology and Infertility. The CRN C will organize, coordinate and implement clinical research trials and other research projects in the areas of infertility and assisted reproductive technologies. These projects will include a clinical trial on uterine transplantation for women with uterine factor infertility, and other studies as assigned, including Phase I-IV clinical trials.

The essential functions of the position include but are not limited to:
—Assist investigators in writing protocols, informed consents, manuals of operation, and data collection forms. Prepare and submit study documents for regulatory approval. Coordinate study start up activities. Attend Investigator Meetings for clinical research trials as applicable. Organize and participate in site visits, both initiation and otherwise. Prepare for and host both internal and external auditing and monitoring activities.
—Be actively involved in planning and implementation of patient recruitment into studies (involves deciding which strategies are best, reaching out to potential recruitment sites/referring physicians, dropping off/posting recruitment materials, etc)
—With minimal supervision, screen, recruit, monitor, retain and follow-up study participants. Obtain informed consent at multiple study sites within the Penn Health System (includes approaching potential subjects in the office, or speaking to them by phone, reviewing their medical records and discussing with investigators, asking prescreening eligibility questions, etc).
—Collect and report timely, valid, detailed and accurate data. Maintain clinical trial databases. Respond to data queries. Maintain subject files and regulatory files per GCP
—With minimal supervision, perform required research activities per protocol and in accordance with GCP (ensuring tests and assessments are performed within window, reviewing all clinical and laboratory data and ensuring that results are appropriately triaged and reviewed, assessing the severity of symptoms and reporting adverse events for review by investigator, administering treatments and/or procedures and monitoring patient care and treatment side effects in concert with investigators)
—Manage the care of patients enrolled in clinical trials. Provide clinical services, including vital signs, phlebotomy, and physical assessments. Collect thorough medical and medication history. Administer investigational products by various routes, including injection.
—Provide education to eligible study participants regarding general study participation and potential effects of treatment. Assess and triage subject reports about symptoms and experiences. Work closely with multidisciplinary care team and communicate with them regarding protocol specific management of events. Act as pre-transplant coordinator. Educate subjects on their immunosuppressive medication regimen and verify their understanding and adherence.
—Provide education and training to clinical and research staff, act as a mentor to junior staff members.

The typical hiring range for this position is $72,000 to $80,000 depending upon the successful candidate’s qualifications.


Bachelor’s degree and a Registered Nurse with a current PA license without restriction or limitation and 2-3 years of experience required. BSN degree preferred. Position requires an articulate individual with excellent oral and written communication skills. The candidate should possess the ability to work independently and also as part of a team. Strong planning, organizational and prioritizing capabilities along with problem solving skills desired. Must be able to work flexible hours. Previous research experience and knowledge of IRB processes, human research protection regulations, and regulatory management preferred. Background in women’s health, infertility or transplant preferred.
