School/Center Overview

Division of the Vice Provost for University Life (VPUL) is Penn’s foremost provider of student services and educational access. Duties

The Medical Director has a senior leadership role within the Student Health Service. The position supports the Executive Director and is responsible for several administrative and managerial activities including supervision of Section Chiefs and the Nurse Manager as well as working with various departments and organizations across the University. The position oversees the accreditation process and other projects which require leadership and input from all sections with SHS. This position also requires the provision of clinical services. This leadership role requires broad clinical knowledge in both primary care, women’s health (including primary care and gynecological procedures) and transgender care, outstanding interpersonal and communication skills and a strong understanding of accreditation and systems processes and quality improvement.

Qualifications

MD/DO required from a medical school recognized by the AMA plus 7- 10 years of experience. Board certified in Internal Medicine or Family Practice with experience in Primary Care. License to practice in Pennsylvania or ability to get license. Must be eligible for appointment in Department of Medicine or Family Practice at UPHS.

Experience must include supervisory responsibility, knowledge of academic issues, programs and institutions, and the development of policies and procedures. Must possess high degree of analytical
initiative and ability. Excellent written and verbal communication skills required. Must be highly organized and analytical and able to deal effectively various data sources. Must be able to work cooperatively with a variety of individuals, exhibit appropriate sensitivity to others, and interface effectively with students, University staff and physicians, and University administrators and students. Must possess excellent technical and professional management skills, including conflict resolution.
