Duties

We seek a highly qualified and experienced certified Cardiac Ultrasound Technician to serve as Technical Director of our clinical and translational research cardiovascular lab at the Cardiovascular Institute at the University of Pennsylvania Perelman School of Medicine. The Penn Center for Quantitative Echocardiography provides services for multi-site NIH and industry-funded clinical trials, investigator initiated studies, and works extensively with academia and industry, nationally and internationally. The Technical Director will direct all technical aspects of the program, and report directly to the Medical Director. The Technical Director will develop echocardiography specific programs with sponsors to meet sponsor-specific goals and which will enable growth of the core. S/he will create study manuals (standard operating procedures) for imaging acquisition and quantitation that are specific to each clinical trial. The SOPs will be kept current and implemented and updated within the lab. The incumbent will also be responsible for training and supervising on-site sonographers, as well as sonographers at collaborating sites to ensure adherence to protocol and the acquisition of the highest quality images. The incumbent will liaise with vendors, study coordinators and investigators on a regular basis to maintain efficient workflow and resolve any and all queries and questions in a timely and efficient manner. The incumbent will be of highly skilled at the acquisition and quantitation of highly specialized studies utilizing 2-D, 3-D echo and Doppler studies. The incumbent will also be responsible for the organization of research lab work flow and have additional administrative tasks such as patient/research subject scheduling and billing. The Technical Director will supervise the research sonographer staff, and oversee the operation and maintenance of the core lab equipment. We seek an intellectually motivated individual who is interested in developing a strong mentored career in academic clinical and translational cardiovascular ultrasound. The Technical Director will be exposed to state-of-the-art ultrasound techniques for the assessment of cardiovascular physiology and will be knowledgeable of scientific quantifications of images and physiologic assessments, with expertise in new techniques. Most importantly, the Technical Director must have the highest standards for excellence in image quality, rigor, reproducibility and attention to detail with strong leadership qualities. Opportunities for authorship of scientific manuscripts and presentation of research results in scientific meetings will be provided.

Qualifications

A Bachelor’s Degree and 5 to 7 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Certification as a Cardiac Ultrasound Technician required.
