The Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania is the oldest and one of the finest medical schools in the United States. The Penn Pancreatic Cancer Research Center (PCRC), a multidisciplinary group of clinicians and researchers, is seeking a skilled and innovative Bioinformatician to support translational studies to identify effective strategies for diagnosing and treating pancreatic cancer. This position will provide bioinformatics services to PIs within the PCRC analyzing large datasets from cell culture experiments, tumor models, and human clinical data to define patterns of mutation, epigenetic dysregulation, and other regulatory networks driving tumor behavior. Services will include, but not be limited to, Next Generation Sequencing (NGS) data analysis, biomedical data management, bioinformatics application development, etc. The position will involve collaborations with other computational biologists working with the Abramson Cancer Center (ACC) and will be part of the computational support infrastructure within the Penn Institute for Biomedical Informatics (IBI).
Job duties include:
Develop, implement and maintain high-quality pipelines for the analysis of large quantities of next-generation sequencing (NGS) data. Develop statistical methods for other biomedical data, and perform analysis and QC measures. Provide reports and tabular/graphic summaries of analyses in a form suitable for inclusion in manuscripts for publication in peer reviewed scientific journals as well as for presentation at scientific meetings. Write scripts to integrate data from multiple resources for data analysis and comparison. Assist in the design, development and maintenance of technical protocols


The minimum of a Master’s degree in biomedical domains with three years of experience working in high-throughput genomics data analysis, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, are required.
In-depth knowledge of NGS data analysis, statistics, and genetics.
Ample experience with Linux/Unix scripting, and coding in Python, Java, Perl, R etc.
High-level report writing and presentation skills.
Work to targets both independently and within a team environment.
