Duties

The University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing is one of the world’s leading schools of nursing, is consistently ranked as one of the top graduate nursing schools in the United States, and is among the nation’s top recipients of nursing research funding from the National Institutes of Health. Penn Nursing prepares nurse scientists and nurse leaders to meet the health needs of a global society through research, education, and practice The Office of Institutional Advancement shapes, translates and promotes the School’s strategic priorities by creating and sustaining relationships with key stakeholders, securing resources and increasing visibility in order to strengthen the School’s reputation and advance the School’s mission.

Working closely with the Director of Strategic Initiatives and Associate Director for Alumni and Donor Relations, the Assistant Director of Stewardship will enhance the mission of the School of Nursing’s Office of Development and Alumni Relations by managing multiple, high-demand projects.

A successful candidate will have superior writing and editing skills with an advanced understanding of development stewardship to illustrate the impact of the School of Nursing and investments in its research, practice and educational initiatives. The Assistant Director will serve as a project manager on multiple projects across the various specialties of the department including Nursing individualized stewardship reports, funding proposals, remarks, and donor correspondence. The Assistant Director is also the primary owner for managing gift fulfillment upon signature of a new gift agreement, ensuring the terms of the agreement are fulfilled. This includes maintaining detailed tracking of all funds and coordinating associated review committees.

A key contributor to our highly collegial department, the Assistant Director of Stewardship works with all members of our team as well as with the staff of the School of Nursing and the University’s various development and alumni relations offices and engages proactively and creatively in our overarching mission.

Specific Duties:

1. Manage multiple projects, reporting to the Director of Strategic Initiatives and working closely with the Director of Strategic Initiatives, Associate Director for Alumni and Donor Relations, and the Administrative Assistant.

2. Steward significant and high level donors to the school including coordinating and attending meetings, purchasing and sending gifts. and writing of correspondence including letters in support of admissions processes, award nominations, personal messages, and congratulatory notes.

3. Manage the production of reports to significant donors, including writing chair reports and special gift reports with oversight with the Director of Strategic Initiatives.

4. Manage gift fulfillment process including maintaining detailed tracking and review of funds and coordinating associated review committees.

5. Prepare remarks written material for the Dean, faculty, and other VIPs as needed in support of the alumni and donor events and publications.

6. Manage the content development of the Impact Report, including proposing content, interviewing donors, and writing content.

7. Manage all donor listings including in People Supporting Penn, Impact Report, and as requested by Central Development and Alumni Relations.

8. Provide key support for the development of briefings and proposals to corporate and foundation sources as needed.

9. Manage donor signage and paver process within Fagin Hall in consultation with Facilities.

10. Serve as school liaison with Central and other schools/centers stewardship staff to ensure coordination in donor communication and to develop and utilize best practices.

11. Serve as quality control editor for development staff on projects such as solicitation letters, proposal and similar.

12. Develop relationships with the School’s faculty and leadership and maintain a broad understanding of the educational, research and practice mission, goals and needs of the University of Pennsylvania School of Nursing.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree with 2-3 years of related or equivalent experience. Excellent written and communication skills are essential (writing samples required). Should be able to concisely articulate issues for and from a diverse group of constituents.
Must have ability to manage multiple projects in a goal- and deadline-oriented environment, and to work independently and as a strong team player. Ability to work collaboratively and effectively with staff, colleagues, and senior administrators and faculty, donors and volunteers. Ability to demonstrate high professional and ethical standards, confidentiality, sensitivity, diplomacy, and sound judgement in all interactions. Familiarity with health care, nursing and academia a plus. Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite as well strong organizational skills and attention to detail are required. Occasional weekend and evening work also required.
