School/Center Overview

The World’s First Business School

In 1881, American entrepreneur and industrialist Joseph Wharton established the world’s first collegiate school of business at the University of Pennsylvania.

Wharton’s pioneering vision was to produce graduates who would become ‘pillars of the state, whether in private or in public life.’ The Wharton School maintains a long tradition of educating visionary business leaders in academia, business, government, and not-for-profit organizations.

Today, Wharton has expanded the scope of this vision to become the most comprehensive source of business knowledge in the world – with over 225 faculty members, 95,000 alumni, 5,000 students across 10 academic departments, 20 research centers, and more than 9,000 executive education participants annually.

Reporting to the Faculty Co-Director, with administrative oversight from the Executive Director, the People Lab Director is responsible for the development and management of the People Lab, a new initiative within Wharton People Analytics that vets, develops and tests assessment tools in order to better equip organizations to develop their staff.

Responsibilities include research, product development, and project implementation; the cultivation of relationships with partner organizations; and coordination with research partners throughout the research process. The Director serves as the primary liaison with Wharton stakeholders, particularly Executive Education and the McNulty Leadership Program to leverage the People Lab’s output for use with students, alumni, and clients, and fuel the Lab’s ongoing data collection. Under the guidance of the Executive Director, the Director is responsible for the staffing of the lab, the construction and management of its budget, reporting on the Lab’s progress, and its day-to-day management. The Director works in close collaboration with the Research Director to design and execute People Lab research studies, and contribute to the intellectual discourse of the WPA research team.

The people Lab Director is expected to bring sophisticated research and communication skills, subject matter expertise, ongoing curiosity, and a collaborative spirit to bear on the advancement of WPA’s strategic goals and research agenda, particularly in relation to WPA’s work in sports analytics, assessment, and leadership development.

Expertise in assessment, psychology and sports analytics highly desired. Master’s and 5-7 years. Ph. D., or equivalent doctoral degree preferred, and 2 years to 3 years of experience; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Project management experience is required. Other required experience includes:
-advanced data analytics
-exceptional interpersonal fluency
-strong presentation skills
-ability to interact professionally at the highest levels of organizations
-supervisory experience
