The Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania is the oldest and one of the finest medical schools in the United States. The University of Pennsylvania department of neurology is seeking a research technician for the Center for Autoimmune Neurology. We are investigating the presence of novel autoantibodies against neuronal proteins and receptors in several neurologic diseases, currently focusing in Hashimoto’s encephalitis. The technician will be responsible for assisting with developing and performing these studies on patients samples, perfecting reliable methods to detect these autoantibodies. This will require scientific techniques including cell transfection, immunohistochemistry, Western blot, and ELISA.

Prior experience in medical or biological research is desirable. This position may also involve contact with patients, acquiring informed consent, maintaining a clinical database, and assisting with IRB protocols. Experience with and interest in patient centered research is therefore also desirable."


The applicant should have a B.A. or B.S. degree in biology, biochemistry, chemistry, or a related field or the equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Prior experience in medical or biological research is desirable. Experience with some of the following techniques is also desirable: Western blot, cell culture and transfection, handling laboratory animals, immunohistochemistry and ELISA. Experience with IRB protocols, consenting patients for studies, medical databases and patient centered research is desirable.
