The World’s First Business School

In 1881, American entrepreneur and industrialist Joseph Wharton established the world’s first collegiate school of business at the University of Pennsylvania.

Wharton’s pioneering vision was to produce graduates who would become ‘pillars of the state, whether in private or in public life.’ The Wharton School maintains a long tradition of educating visionary business leaders in academia, business, government, and not-for-profit organizations.

Today, Wharton has expanded the scope of this vision to become the most comprehensive source of business knowledge in the world – with over 225 faculty members, 95,000 alumni, 5,000 students across 10 academic departments, 20 research centers, and more than 9,000 executive education participants annually.


The Associate Director of Student Life is a student affairs profession who helps support undergraduate student development by providing programming, leadership opportunities, life skills, guidance, mentorship, and overall holistic approach to the student’s co-curricular experience. The Associate Director is responsible for planning and implementing division-wide events and student life initiatives such as Family Weekend, Alumni Colloquia, and Graduation. The Associate Director will be responsible for the advising and leadership development of the student leaders of the Wharton Council traditions board, the Junior-Senior Advisory Board, and the undergrad-MBA mentoring program board. The Associate Director will develop, implement, and assess initiatives for the Junior and Senior year experience including the Capstone courses for seniors, senior class awards process, class-wide programs, panels, case competitions, and leadership development opportunities for juniors and seniors. The Associate Director will also work with the club leaders on their planning, implementation and assessment of club conferences and large-scale club events. The position will assist with event and program assessment and budget management.


Bachelors degree required and 3-5 years experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Masters preferred and 2 to 3 years minimum experience required in student activities, student advising, higher education, event planning, program management, budget management or equivalent combination of education and experience. Ideal candidate must have strong ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously. Must have the experience, ability, and/or interest in working with and advising undergraduate students. Must have extensive event planning skills, student advising, program management, and budget experience; must be extremely detail-oriented and strong organizational skills are required. Must be able to work well with all constituencies to promote a workplace and educational environment that supports a highly diverse population. Must be able to work in a busy and collaborative team environment. Some evening and weekend work is required. Demonstrated knowledge of Microsoft office experience.
