School/Center Overview

The Business Services Division (BSD) supports the individual and collective needs of the Penn community by promoting a hospitable, customer-friendly campus environment through the provision of mission-critical services and essential operations. BSD’s mission is to provide high-quality service in a fiscally responsible manner. The Division is currently focused on three major initiatives: Revenue growth/retention through improved marketing efforts, extended services, and development of new distribution channels; driving productivity for the Division and its customers through the better use of technology, and enhancing service offerings through upgrades and expansions of facilities.


The Marketing Coordinator will administer and monitor the social media accounts across approximately 20 individual departments and programs under the auspices of the division. The position is responsible for developing, curating, and posting social media content across multiple digital platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, etc.). It is also responsible for executing related marketing and event-based initiatives that serve to inform and complement the division’s social media strategy as well as enhance the visibility of departmental programs and services.

The Coordinator will generate ideas and content in relation to specific departments and areas of focus, working with the BSD communications team and business unit stakeholders to build unique and compelling social media ‘brands.’ The Coordinator will also act as a set of ‘eyes and ears’ for digital media, monitoring social media accounts and conversations, incorporating social listening feedback into overall strategy, and responding to or forwarding comments as necessary.

In support of the BSD Communications Team, the Marketing Coordinator will work to amplify overall divisional marketing efforts by integrating social media efforts. He/she will identify opportunities to cross-market, support print and digital outreach, and coordinate events-based marketing as assigned.

Reporting to the division’s Assistant Director of Communications, the position is responsible for supporting the BSD Communications Team to develop key performance indicators for social media. These indicators will serve as the basis for the team to monitor, analyze, and report on social media efforts, informing divisional best-practices and increasing overall social media strategy and presence.

Maintain a schedule of original social media content for various divisions across social media platforms.


Bachelor’s Degree and 2 to 3 years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience is required. Degree in marketing or business preferred. Minimum 2 years of experience in social media marketing or similar role required. Experience with implementing or supporting marketing initiatives and/or special events required.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills.

Demonstrated knowledge and experience working with a variety of social media platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, Tumblr, Snapchat, etc. In-depth understanding of how each platform can be deployed in different scenarios.

Demonstrated graphic design skills and some experience with Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign) is a plus. Demonstrable aptitude to learn such skills is required.

Familiarity with and/or aptitude to learn social media monitoring and content tools (Sprout Social, Buzz.Report, etc.).

Photography and video editing experience strongly preferred.

Ability to occasionally work variable schedules to include weekends and evenings as needed (for special events that may occur throughout the academic year), including off campus events at Morris Arboretum.
