The World’s First Business School

JOSEPH WHARTON, FOUNDER
In 1881, American entrepreneur and industrialist Joseph Wharton established the world’s first collegiate school of business at the University of Pennsylvania.

Wharton’s pioneering vision was to produce graduates who would become ‘pillars of the state, whether in private or in public life.’ The Wharton School maintains a long tradition of educating visionary business leaders in academia, business, government, and not-for-profit organizations.

Duties

Manage multiple accounts including federal/non-federal sponsored programs, interdepartmental, and interschool budgets; assist in achieving annual fundraising goals of the Center; develop budget projections and produce financial reports; monitor revenues and expenses; transact on BEN Financials; manage payroll, PILLAR, and SALINC databases; draft and track grant proposals and budgets. Supervise staff in planning/implementing annual conferences, symposia, and special events. Supervise team producing manuscripts for publication and review contracts; supervise updating of Center website. Supervise/train administrative assistants; develop/manage office projects and teams related to those projects. The Associate Director reports to the Director of Boettner Center and has a dual reporting relationship to the Vice Dean of Finance & Administration.

Qualifications

BA/BS degree and 3-5 years experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience required. Master’s degree preferred. At least 2-3 years’ experience with computerized accounting system, preferably BEN Financials and payroll; thorough knowledge of University of Pennsylvania policies and procedures; background in Penn’s financial/administrative setting and experience in grants management and personnel administration highly desirable. Excellent communication and organizational skills; ability to prioritize and juggle multiple projects simultaneously; detail and goal-oriented. Supervisory experience preferred; knowledge of sponsor requirements and accountability for compliance with sponsor requirements preferred; excellent verbal & written communication skills required. Excellent computer skills including word processing and spreadsheet applications; must be flexible and have demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously under tight deadlines.
