School/Center Overview

The primary responsibilities of this position are to develop and manage flow cytometry-based readout services offered by the Stem Cell and Xenograft Core to support clinical research trials. The Project Manager will interface directly with principal investigators to understand the clinical and scientific context of the projects and readouts, will provide technical expertise in flow cytometry to develop and validate assays, assess feasibility and cost, allocate Core resources and personnel to achieve the objectives, and oversee the daily planning and execution of experiments related to multiple projects. The Project Manager will focus on the planning and execution of specific research projects under limited supervision, and will support and facilitate studies for other projects served by the Stem Cell Xenograft Core. The Project Manager will be the primary person to resolve daily issues related to experimental protocols, instruments, and will conduct and supervise administrative functions related to the cost estimates, ordering of supplies, expense tracking, billing to Core users. Ability to independently perform advanced level research including experimental design and planning, assay development, budget and resource allocation, quality control and data reporting and in the fields of biomarkers, immunology and cellular biology is critical. Responsibilities include the development and validation of flow cytometric assays and protocols to support clinical trials in hematologic malignancies, provide technical support, conduct data analyses, prepare summary of results and assist in the preparation of scientific manuscripts and grant proposals. The Project Manager will supervise technicians and train other researchers in these techniques. Ability to communicate effectively, coordinate and implement research plans effectively with a faculty, research technicians, trainees and external collaborators in the academic or private sectors is critical.


The minimum of a Master’s Degree and 3 to 5 years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience, are required. The candidate should have a minimum of 3 years experience in flow cytometry, immunology or related fields. Experience in the fields of human stem cell biology and hematologic malignancies is preferred. Expert knowledge in techniques such as flow cytometry, tissue culture, is required. Ability to coordinate the execution of multiple projects, communicate effectively with multiple research groups is critical to this position.
