Duties

The Gene Therapy Program (GTP) is entering a new era of unprecedented opportunity with the great potential to reshape the face of medicine as we know it. Our discoveries have set the stage for successful treatments and possibly even cures for devastating genetic diseases.
The laboratory of Dr. Jim Wilson, at GTP of the University of Pennsylvania, has been a leader in the development of innovative vector technology for close to three decades. We have emerged as the ‘go-to’ organization for public and private partners, who want to participate in the gene therapy space. Currently, we are positioned to lead another round of vector innovation and establish pre-clinical and clinical proof-of-concept in therapeutic applications of in-vivo genome editing.

Our Vector Core is a state-of-the-art facility which provides vector-related materials and services in support of basic and translational research worldwide.

The Vector core is on the hunt for an Associate Director of Preclinical Vector Services (AD-PVS) to manage the production and distribution of research vectors for investigators outside of GTP.

As the AD-PVS, you oversee the construction and design of vectors (lenti, adeno, or AAV) as well as direct the activities of technologists performing cloning, DNA production, and DNA characterization. You will interact with scientists to design constructs for gene delivery, gene silencing and in vivo gene editing including designing codon optimized genes; process requests, establish scope of projects, and send quotes to external partners; manage communications between outside institutions providing source materials for the production of inventory vectors for distribution to the research community; develop a business model and strategic plan for Vector Core Inventory Operations.

In addition, the AD-PVS will support and direct preclinical vector manufacturing activities in absence of Associate Director so you will be cross trained in all aspects of Pre-clinical Vector Services.

Qualifications
  • Masters Degree in Biology, Virology, Immunology, or related field with 5-7 years relevant academic (e.g. post-doctoral) and/or industrial experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience, are required. Ph.D. strongly preferred.
    * Extensive knowledge of molecular biology, cell biology, viral-based vector technologies
    * Ability to provide cloning and vectorology expertise to core users
    * Ability to manage multiple projects, supervise staff and work collaboratively to achieve goals required
    * Excellent oral/written communication skills required
