The Senior Research Coordinator will conduct survey research on child marriage, breastfeeding, and complementary feeding in various regions of Mali. This position will involve maintaining positive working relationships with research partners at the University of Pennsylvania, in Germany, and in Mali, constructing and localizing survey materials, monitoring data collection, analyzing data, and preparing data-informed reports and behavioral recommendations. The Senior Research Coordinator will travel to Mali periodically for this position and maintain lines of communication with in-country partners while in Philadelphia.

The Research Coordinator Sr. is responsible for a range of activities, including tracking deadlines and ensuring they are met, helping to consolidate existing literature, building and analyzing surveys, continuously communicating with project partners (both local and international), helping to oversee data collection, and collaborating on writing reports. The Sr. Research Coordinator will carry out duties as delegated by the PI and to otherwise meet project goals. He or she will also travel internationally periodically.

Day-to-day activities include autonomously and in team-based environment providing executive and administrative support to the project, PI and collaborators, initiatives and general executive. Help establish and maintain critical office systems and protocols including document management systems and other systems required to improve efficiency, information sharing, and shared learning in promoting work of the project. Conducting prospect research; drafting and disseminating routine correspondence, writing standard and complex or confidential material; events, data, materials and file management; coordinating logistics, arranging travel, transportation, and lodging as needed; collecting and organizing information for meetings and/or reports; co-enforcing timelines, project standards and the quality of deliverables, coordinating faculty, students and staff.

This is a 9-month term appointment.

  • Bachelor’s Degree and 3 to 5 years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience, are required
    * Master’s Degree is strongly preferred
    * Ability to take initiative and independently problem-solve, manage and drive complex projects to completion; ability to meet deadlines and to work independently, but collaboratively, within a goal-oriented team environment
    * Experience with survey preparation and analysis is required
    * Experience conducting research in West African settings is strongly preferred
    * Knowledge of nutrition, child marriage, and social norms and ability to speak French and/or Bambara are also all preferred
    * Exercise considerable judgment in performance of duties; represent the Penn with professionalism when carrying out tasks and when interacting with others
    * Knowledge of sensitivity to diverse cultures and ability to work effectively across times zones and customs while exercising considerable judgement, tact and diplomacy in performance of duties
    * Comfort with diversity in all forms, with different cultural values and norms;
    * Excellent verbal and written communication skills; excellent interpersonal and organizational skills
    * Absolute confidentiality and a commitment to professional ethics
    * Thorough knowledge of research procedures, practices, and methods; ability to organize and prioritize assignments and work effectively with diverse groups; highly detail oriented; flexible and productive under pressure.
