The World’s First Business School

In 1881, American entrepreneur and industrialist Joseph Wharton established the world’s first collegiate school of business at the University of Pennsylvania.

Wharton’s pioneering vision was to produce graduates who would become ‘pillars of the state, whether in private or in public life.’ The Wharton School maintains a long tradition of educating visionary business leaders in academia, business, government, and not-for-profit organizations.

Today, Wharton has expanded the scope of this vision to become the most comprehensive source of business knowledge in the world – with over 225 faculty members, 95,000 alumni, 5,000 students across 10 academic departments, 20 research centers, and more than 9,000 executive education participants annually.


The Associate Director, Global Clubs is a member of the Alumni Relations team responsible for the management of 30+ domestic and international alumni clubs. The position reports to the Senior Associate Director of Global Clubs and is responsible for building and maintaining meaningful relationships with clubs and their alumni leaders while contributing to Wharton’s global strategy and representing the Wharton brand. Responsibilities include frequent travel both domestically and internationally, relationship and volunteer management, and ensuring the club communities are adhering to Wharton’s minimum standards. The person is this role must be knowledgeable of current events and priorities across Wharton, as they directly liaise with high level Executive Board Members and alumni and collaborate with the Development Team on international fundraising strategy. This position must also become well versed in NationBuilder, Wharton’s web platform for alumni clubs, and collaborate with the Online Engagement Team to help develop training and resources for club leaders using the platform. This position will work closely with the Penn Alumni Regional Clubs Team and must also become familiar with Penn club policies and procedures and look for opportunities for collaboration. A solid understanding of institutional goals and privacy issues as related to data control is also crucial to the holder of this position.


A Bachelor’s degree is required and 3 to 5 years of experience in alumni relations or volunteer management or equivalent combination of education and experience, preferably in an educational environment. Excellent organization, communication, collaboration, customer service, and interpersonal skills are essential. Experience in serving volunteer organizations and understanding of volunteer perspective is preferred.

Strong verbal and written communication skills required. Must be detail and results oriented, self-motivated, resourceful, and be able to manage multiple projects simultaneously. Must demonstrate the confidence and maturity to work with senior level business alumni and Wharton faculty. The position requires experience successfully managing highly confidential information and a solid understanding of the importance of philanthropy to the achievement of institutional goals.

Must be computer proficient with an aptitude for learning new technology and have a willingness to travel and work on nights and weekends.
