The Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania is the oldest and one of the finest medical schools in the United States. The Gene Therapy Program (GTP) is entering a new era of unprecedented opportunity with the great potential to reshape the face of medicine as we know it. Our discoveries have set the stage for successful treatments and possibly even cures for devastating genetic diseases.

The laboratory of Dr. Jim Wilson, at GTP of the University of Pennsylvania, has been a leader in the development of innovative vector technology for close to three decades. We have emerged as the ‘go-to’ organization for public and private partners, who want to participate in the gene therapy space. Currently, we are positioned to lead another round of vector innovation and establish pre-clinical and clinical proof-of-concept in therapeutic applications of in-vivo genome editing.

The GTP Program for Comparative Medicine (PCM) is essential to the GTP mission and is instrumental for the in life phase of the assessment of gene therapeutics before human application.

Reporting to the Senior Director (SD), PMC, the Core Program Manager (CPM) has overall responsibility for managing all R&D activities conducted by PCM.

Key responsibilities include:
- Oversee scheduling and coordinate work schedules.
- Oversee the management of the in-life phase of gene therapy research studies, and the management of regulatory submissions and resource management.
- Facilitates interdisciplinary team meetings using meeting management best practices to drive cross-functional communication, timely and efficient decision-making, and successful execution of Core objectives.
- Develop and maintain integrated, cross-functional program timelines to identify and communicate interdependencies and critical path activities, across multiple research teams
- Proactively identify and prioritize Core opportunities and risks; develop and monitor action and mitigation plans across all Research Teams; work with SD to effectively communicate risk analysis and recommendations to the Project Management team
- Partner with the SD to ensure that the PCM effectively manages and communicates the budget and ensure financial and resource implications of decisions, risks, and opportunities are fully understood to better inform prioritization and decision-making.

- Interacts with all groups and levels within GTP
- Interacts with Study Directors, external clients, consultants, vendors and contract research/manufacturing organizations


* Master’s degree in life science and a minimum of 3 years of experience in management of studies performed under Good Laboratory Practices (21 CFR Part 58), or an equivalent combination of education and experience, are required.
* Proven track record of success in Project Management
* Proven ability to balance the strategic needs of the program with tactical day-to-day activities
* Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to motivate others, influence without authority, and negotiate conflict situations
* Outstanding communication, analytical, and organizational skills
* Highly collaborative team player who fosters open communication and facilitates mutual understanding and cooperation between all stakeholders
* Proven knowledge of care, use and regulations pertaining to the use of animal models for biomedical research is strongly desired.
* Proven ability to balance conflicting priorities across multiple programs, and to make sound recommendations for trade-offs between resources to achieve organizational objectives
* Experience creating and managing integrated timelines and budgets
* Self-directed individual who is able to work with limited direction in a fast-paced environment
* Ability to perform in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities under tight deadlines
* Ability to effectively manage multiple diverse cross-functional teams in a matrix organizational structure
* Strong written and verbal communication skills
* Proficient with Microsoft Office (e.g. Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, Project)
