School/Center Overview

The World’s First Business School

In 1881, American entrepreneur and industrialist Joseph Wharton established the world’s first collegiate school of business at the University of Pennsylvania.

Wharton’s pioneering vision was to produce graduates who would become ‘pillars of the state, whether in private or in public life.’ The Wharton School maintains a long tradition of educating visionary business leaders in academia, business, government, and not-for-profit organizations.

Today, Wharton has expanded the scope of this vision to become the most comprehensive source of business knowledge in the world – with over 225 faculty members, 95,000 alumni, 5,000 students across 10 academic departments, 20 research centers, and more than 9,000 executive education participants annually.

The Associate Director of the Wharton Leadership Program is responsible for three major job functions: (1) managing the Wharton 101 TA fellowship program. The Associate Director will manage the planning, operations, and delivery of the TA fellowship program; more specifically, he or she will take responsibility for overseeing TA selection, training, and briefing/ debriefing of individual student mentorship experiences. (2) Supporting the development and implementation of the small group experiential learning in Wharton 101. The Associate Director will cultivate roughly 35 live case studies for students working in and across several small groups in order to address an issue, problem, or challenge facing a local service agency. (3) Supporting the creation of co-curricular programming for ‘The Leadership Journey,’ the new requirement replacing MGMT 100. Creating co-curricular programming requires that the Associate Director work closely with core teams in the Leadership Program in order to initiate or expand offerings sponsored by the P3, Ventures, and Nonprofit Board programs.

The Associate Director functions expertly in dynamic, team-based environment with rapidly-changing priorities and also collaborates with individuals at all levels of the organization. The Associate Director functions fully as a member of the Wharton Leadership Program team, and participates in the team-based events, advocacy, and outreach necessary for the development of the Wharton Global Leadership Institute.
