School/Center Overview
Duties

The Department of Cancer Biology is currently seeking an experienced cell and molecular biologist with experience in multi-color flow cytometry to conduct innovative experiments in breast cancer research. The individual will process and analyze blood and bone marrow from patient samples as part of a large clinical study. The individual will actively engage in the experimental design, evaluation and execution of multi-colored flow cytometry and cell sorting strategies as well as tissue culture, and other more specialized cellular technologies.
The job will include a combination of independent and team driven projects as part of a large clinical study. The individual will be expected to readily engage in tissue culture, multi-colored flow cytometry, cell sorting, and other specialized cellular technologies. The individual will be expected to learn and execute certain functional and maintenance skills that relate to the complex nature of the equipment being used.
Hours will be flexible due to the unpredictability associated with surgical patients and the availability of certain equipment.

Qualifications

BA/BS degree in Biology or a related field and 1-3 years of experience, or equivalent combination of education and experience, are required. The candidate is expected to be self-motivated and have the skill and confidence to work independently.
Experience with multicolored flow cytometry and cell culture is required. Experience in the following technical areas will also be useful: DNA/RNA isolation, cDNA/cRNA preparation, q-PCR, and immuno-fluorescent and histochemical microscopy. Excellent communication, analytical, computer, and organizational skills are essential, as well as keen attention to detail and the ability to multi-task in a fast paced work environment.
