School/Center Overview

The Senior Research Investigator will lead the ongoing translational research projects and the staff at existing NIH-sponsored Hepatitis B Research Network Immunology Center and Viral Hepatitis Immune Pathogenesis Laboratory based at the University of Pennsylvania and the Philadelphia VA Medical Center. He/she will ensure successful execution of currently ongoing studies, analyze the scientific results to prepare presentations and write manuscripts based on those results. The investigator is also expected to develop new studies and techniques needed for ongoing research, interact with other investigators in the HBRN network as well as other scientists in the field, ensure regulatory compliance for the ongoing studies and write/submit funding applications.

The investigator will also have a supervisory role for existing laboratory staff, including facilitation, documentation, analysis and communication needed for ongoing laboratory work on behalf of the principal investigator as well as some hands-on lab-based work involving multi-parameter flow and mass cytometry, functional cellular immune assays, infectious pathogens (including HBV, HCV, HIV), radioactivity and sequencing, complex single cell analysis with multiple parameters requiring bioinformatics and statistical expertise. The employee will also supervise and train other research staff, attend research meetings at local and national levels as needed.


Highly advanced professional discipline. M.D., Ph. D., or equivalent doctoral degree and 5 to 7 years of experience is required. Expertise in immunology and multi-parameters flow cytometry required with a strong preference for experience with mass cytometry; experience in clinical medicine preferred; ability to work in a US federal government facility is required, as well as the ability to work safely with infectious pathogens and radioactivity; Fluency in written and spoken English is also a requirement.
